SUMMARY: Jace Duhon of South Beauregard and Brianna Fontenot of Kinder were named MVPs of the American Press All-Southwest Louisiana Big Schools in baseball and softball, respectively. Duhon, with a standout 10-2 record and a 1.10 ERA, led his team to a state championship. Fontenot, hitting .583 with 18 home runs, played a pivotal role in Kinder's offense and pitched to a 2.80 ERA. Coaches of the Year were Jeremy Deville, who coached the Golden Knights to their first state championship since 2017, and Kenzie Singletary, who brought her team to the edge of the state tournament. SUMMARY: Shirley Mae Daigle, aged 80, died on June 6, 2024, surrounded by her family in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Born on January 21, 1944, to Arthur and Irene Ferguson Works, Shirley was married for 57 years to Leo Daigle, with whom she shared a life in Westlake, Louisiana. Renowned for her volunteer work and faithful service at St John Bosco Catholic Church, Shirley converted to Catholicism, valuing this as a significant part of her identity. As a dedicated mother and “team mom,” she enthusiastically supported her children's activities. She is survived by her children and grandchildren and was predeceased by her husband and siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 12, 2024, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, followed by interment at Westlake Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Johnson Funeral Home on June 11.
