Every new gameplay video – be it the mercenary, the mage or the monk – brings with it a flood of new features, quality of life (QoL) and brutally cool abilities. The witch is a dream come true for all “Minion Masters”. After Last Epoch was able to show how cool this style of play can look compared to Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2 takes it to the next level:

Of course, any class can play with minions, but the Witch offers the best opportunities for this – as in PoE1, weapons provide a fixed standard group of minions that do not need to be summoned and can respawn at any time if they die. These minions can be moved in a targeted manner, for example to change position, attack certain enemies or open boxes. In addition, you can choose the “Spirit” resource, which allows you to select certain minions that belong to your necrotic army. This new resource was already mentioned for PoE2: It ensures that you do not have to reserve your mana for auras etc. The special minions are different. A sniper skeleton can create gas clouds, for example, while an Arsonist lets your minions explode with few life points. In addition to permanent minions, there are also temporary minions. The “Unearth” skill turns corpses or enemies that die from the attack skill into bone scorpions. In addition to the minions, the Witch also uses the debuff spell Contagion. This jumps to the next target after it dies. If you summon a minion with the corpse of an infected person, the minion will also be infected. It will then apply the debuff to its targets again.The other debuff spell Essence Drain is more geared towards single target damage, but also spreads if the target is also affected by Contagion.Zombies are back! They can take a lot more damage than skeletons, but they don't respawn and require a corpse to summon.
How does the same character play at level 30?
All of these options and innovations come from gameplay of a level 2 witch. What are the options at level 30? The second half of the video shows this.
Storm mages accompany the witch as permanent minions in this segment. These skeletons shock enemies and can use a skill to make lightning strike wherever one of your skeletons has died. A cleric heals your minions, while reavers are skeleton berserkers who do increased damage but lose life.

Bone Storm is a witch's attack spell that collects bone fragments and then fires them as a magical volley.Offering spells are making a comeback! You can impale a skeleton on a bone spike, for example, which gives everyone else a damage buff. Or you can use Pain Offering, which makes minions attack faster.With Profane Ritual, you can get Power Charges from corpses. These no longer give passive bonuses like in PoE1, but can be used to strengthen spells. Summoned zombies become super zombies, and the Bone Storm becomes an AoE spell.

AND OF COURSE there will be Spectres again: In the video, the witch gets a strong minion in the form of a killed Faridun Impaler. This costs a lot of spirit, which is why the witch has to give up some of her other minions. Spectres also respawn after they die! A fantastic upgrade compared to part 1, where it was difficult not to lose such minions after you had laboriously obtained them.
