NEVA MAE GILLIAM CARTER passed away on the morning of Wednesday, May 11, 2011. She was born in Monticello on July 12, 1920 to Albert Gilliam and Ida Sue Burks Gilliam. She is preceded in death by Robert Edward Carter, her husband of 69 years, as well as all seven of her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Carter served as the treasurer of American Sheet Metal for over 50 years. She was a member of the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ where she faithfully attended until her health began to fail. Even then, her dear friends encouraged her through her remaining days. Mrs. Carter enjoyed working in the yard, visiting with family and friends, and telling stories about days gone by.

Survivors include her three sons: Max Carter and wife, Jackie, of Oakton, Virginia, Charles Carter and wife, Karen, of Maumelle, and Keith Carter and wife, Rachel, of Pine Bluff. She also leaves five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be conducted from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home located at 943 Highway 425 North, in Monticello. A graveside service will be conducted at the Union Ridge Cemetery in Monticello at 11 a.m. on the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the benevolence fund of the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ in Pine Bluff, in keeping with Mrs. Carter’s wishes. ROY A. DELLER, 98, of Little Rock, passed away May 10, 2011. He was born December 30, 1912 in Bigelow, Ark., to the late Anthony and Lula Allen Deller. He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Martha Deller, and by his parents. Roy was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and greatgreat-grandfather. He loved to spend time fishing and being around his friends and family. Roy was a member of Knights of Columbus and was an active member of Our Ladyof Good Counsel Catholic Church for over 75 years. He worked for C. Finkbiners Meatpacking for 53 years.

Survivors include a son, Roy Ronald Deller and his wife Sue of Germantown, Tenn.; four grandchildren, six great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter and a host of extended friends and family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 9 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church with Father Wood as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. SAMUEL REO FLAHERTY, passed away May 11, 2011. Hewas born in Blevins, Arkansas to Walter Flaherty and Beula Ursery Flaherty on October 23, 1917. Reo graduated from Blevins High School. He furthered his education byattending Henderson College in Arkadelphia where he received a B.A. degree. Later he went to Commerce, Texas and earned a master’s degree. While in summer session at Henderson he met and married Venie Barton. They both taught school at Ashdown, Arkansas where he was principal for 10 years. Later they taught high school at Crossett, Arkansas for six years. They moved to Little Rock in 1958 where he taught math at Hall High School. Mr. Flaherty was active in St. Paul United Methodist Church until he became ill in 2003. Reo enjoyed gardening, traveling and fishing. He was a resident at Presbyterian Village for eight years.

Besides his wife, Venie, and his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Pennington; three sisters, Irene Linam, Winnie Sweat, and Doris McFarland and his brother, Felix Flaherty. Reo is survived by one sister, Willie Belle Hoover; a brother, Theo Flaherty; a sonin-law, John Pennington; three grandchildren, Amanda Prados, Andrew Pennington and Aaron Pennington; three great-grandchildren, Beau and Chase Prados and Brooks Pennington; his sister-in-law, Pauline “Polly” Johnson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family extends thanks to the staff and caretakers for the care and kindness during the eight years he was at Presbyterian Village. Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m.Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.

ALBERT GRAVES JR., 74, died on May 8, 2011, at MD AndersonCancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born October 16, 1936, in Hope, Arkansas, to Albert and Alice Graves. Mr. Graves graduated from Hendrix College in 1958, where he served asstudent body president, and then from Harvard Law School in 1961. He returned to Hope after graduation to practice law at Graves & Graves with his father and grandfather.

While practicing law at his family firm, he served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney from 1962-1966; member of the Board of Law Examiners from 1971-1974; City Attorney from 1979-1981; Juvenile Judge from 1978-1981 and 1985-1986; Circuit/Chancery Judge, Eighth Judicial District of Arkansas in 1982; and Special Chief Justice, Arkansas Supreme Court in 1991. He served as President of Hope Hardware and of Southern Mills, and director on the boards of Citizens National Bank of Hope, First United Bancshares, and BancorpSouth. He was also the self-designated National Traffic Director (“NTD”).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Elizabeth Dawn Graves. He is survived by his wife, Cortney Suzann Graves; his daughters, Julie Graves Bethell and her husband George of Bryant and Allison Graves Warner and her husband Matthew of Little Rock; one sister, Ginanne Graves Long; one brother, John Robert Graves and his wife Sue Ann; five grandchildren, Nicholas Brannan Whitson and his wife Starla of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Andrew Jett Bethell and Allison Elizabeth Bethell of Bryant; and Jacob Albert Graves Warner and Alice Cheeves Warner of Little Rock; two nephews, Robert Long of Little Rock and John Long of Fayetteville; and two nieces, Beth Snider of Little Rock and Heidi Schmidley of Fort Smith.

LEWIS CURTIS HAMMONS, age 85, went to be with the Lordon Wednesday, May 11, 2011. He was born March 22, 1926 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Lewis Bryant Hammons and Addie S. Gray Hammons. He worked for Dickson Tile,was a brick mason and member of the Bricklayers Union. He was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 40 years Alma Jean Hammons; and sisters, Frances Nancisco and Freda Padgett. He is survived by son, Lewis C. NONNIE LEE McQUAY-MOSSGULLEY, 84, of Little Rock, Ark .,departed this life on Tuesday May 10, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and one granddaughter.

A. DAVID MINNIS, age 66, of Mabelvale, Arkansas, passedaway Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was born February 26, 1945, in Chillicothe, Missouri. At 37, David moved to Mabelvale. He was an avid golfer who loved listening to and playing countrymusic, clock repair and lots of inside and outside activities. He was a very dedicated Union Man who loved his family and a large host of friends.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janie Minnis; two daughters, Tammy Maberry and husband Stanley of Dawn, Mo., and Rhonda Russell and husband Jeff of Mabelvale; two brothers, and Allen Minnis of Seattle, Wash., and Wayne Minnis of Carmel, Ind.; three grandchildren, Steff Hill and husband Josh of Benton, Ark., Kimberly Maberry of Dawn, Mo., and Casey Maberry of Braymer, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren, Braden, Kyrstin and Kiera Lucas, all of Benton, Ark., and Scott Maberry of Braymer, Mo. WILLIAM R. “BILL” THOMPSON, age 70, of Little Rockpassed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, after a brief hardfought battle with cancer. He was born October 9, 1940 in Walcott, Arkansas, to the late William Gregg and ManottieNewsom Thompson. Bill graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1958. He attended Henderson State University and graduated from Southwestern Institute of Banking at SMU. He worked for Bank of America for 45 years and was serving as Vice President of Trust at Bancorp South. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paula Thompson; daughters, Jennifer Platt and husband, Kip of Dallas, Texas, and Anna Friemel and husband, Chris of Little Rock, Arkansas; sister, Mary Beth Hamot and husband, Jerry of Sherwood, Arkansas; grandchildren, Audrey and Jillian Platt; niece, Robin Cornettand husband, Kevin of Benton, Arkansas and their children Rachel and Ryan Cornett.

ARKADELPHIA - Delphine Whitley Wright, age 71, of Arkadelphia, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Arkadelphia. She was born December 26, 1939 the daughter of the late Guy and Rellie May Hardin Whitley. She retired from the Glenwood GloveFactory in Glenwood. Delphine loved her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed gospel music, quilting and sewing.

BENTON - Mr. Earl James, age 101, of Benton went to be with his Heavenly Father and family members already there on Wednesday May 11, 2011. He was born January 28, 1910 in Saline County. He was a life long member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church and a life long resident of Saline County.

BENTON - W. Richard Wilhelm, 88, of Benton went to be with theLord on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. He was a retired dairy farmer, an avid gardener, and a gifted winemaker. Richard was a member of Avilla Zion Lutheran Church. He was a tenderhearted, gentleman with a dry wit who was loved dearly by his family and friends.

Born in Alexander, Ark., on November 7, 1922, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Katherine “Kaff” Mary Wilhelm; his parents, Walter and Carrie Wilhelm; his sister, Verena Smith Pritchard; and his brother, Harold Wilhelm. FAYETTEVILLE - Ernest B. Matkin, Jr. 84, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Butterfield Trail Village Health Care Center. He was born October 26, 1926 at Gregory (Woodruff County), the son of Ernest B. (Bo) Matkin and Cora Huenefeld Matkin. He was preceded in death by his son, Ernest B. (Bo) Matkin III and his wife Carl Anne Matkin.

He was a graduate of Little Rock (Central) High School and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He served in the navy in World War II. He married Carl Anne McDowell on May 17, 1952 and spent over 35 years in banking and real estate.

A member of Central United Methodist Church, he and his wife were one of four founding families of Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Community service included a term as the state president of the Lions Club and state co-chairman of a fundraising effort to increase the pensions for Little Rock Conference pastors Methodist (now part of the Arkansas conference).

In 1987, he was appointed by the Arkansas Supreme Court to the Committee on Unauthorized Practice where he later served as chairman. In 2002, he was honored with the Neppie Conner Volunteer of the Year award for outstanding volunteer service to Faith in Action in Fayetteville.

He is survived by his two daughters: Judith Matkin Allen of Des Moines, Iowa; Marion Matkin Purvis and her husband Hoyt of Fayetteville; a sister: Ernestine Martin of Little Rock; three grandchildren: Story Matkin-Rawn, William Matkin Allen, Jonathan Andrew Allen and one great-grandchild, Zora Jay Allen-Hayter.

HEBER SPRINGS - Ed Adam Guillotte Sr., 89, of Heber Springs, Ark., died May 6, 2011. He is at Peace with his Savior. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, friend to all he met, ever thankful.

PINE BLUFF - Melva Florine Herring, 85, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, found peace in her new home Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born October 5, 1925, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, to Joe Lee Hardin, Sr. and Lannie Edwin Dossey Hardin. She grew up in the Buck Range Community and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Mineral Springs. As a young lady she sang with her family “The Hardin’s” on gospel radio. Mrs. Herring had worked at Frougs Department Store as a seamstress and later, she did free-hand monogram service from her home. She did everything from beautiful handstitched quilts to rodeo costumes. She also worked at the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and was employed by Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas, where she met her husband, Robert C. “Bob” Herring Jr., whom she married on May 26, 1952 in Texarkana. She was a Baptist and enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, working in the yard with her flowers and was an avid fisherwoman wherever she found a honey hole of goggle-eye.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Laverne Hardin, Joe Lee Hardin Jr., J.L. Hardin and a sister, Wanda Faye Threat.

DES MOINES, Iowa - James Robert “Bud” Kilman, 77 of DesMoines, Iowa, a former Iowa State corrections official and Waterloo, Iowa, television and radio newsman, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.Mr. Kilman was born Tuesday, February 14, 1933, in Bald Knob, Arkansas, to the late Lloyd and Ethel (Baugher) Kilman. The family moved to Arizona in 1935 and returned to Arkansas in 1947. He graduated from Bald Knob High School in 1952 and graduated from Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. After serving in the U.S. Air Force in Africa and Iowa, he worked at KXEL, KWWL and WMT throughout the 1960’s in Des Moines, Iowa. He also worked as a newsman for KWCB in Searcy, Arkansas. He helped to pioneer Iowa’s community-based corrections system in the 1970’s. As Director of the community corrections for the First Judicial District, he oversaw the opening of half-way houses in Northeast Iowa. Mr. Kilman retired in 2000 and worked as an independent contractor handling property transactions for the city of West Des Moines until 2009. He was a private pilot and skydiver. His interests ranged from helping troubled youth in Des Moines to studying the conflict in the Middle East where he traveled with the Fellowship of Reconciliation in 2004.

Mr. Kilman is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Des Moines and five children; Lita Wester and Terry Kilman of Waterloo, Scott Kilman (Patricia) of Park Ridge, Illinois, Jill Brand (Scott) of Titusville, Florida, and Joy Rothwell (Michael) of Burr Oak, Iowa. Grandchildren are Lisa Abdulghani, Lucas Abdulghani, Aaron Brand, Jordan Brand, Bennett Kilman, Helen Kilman, James Kilman, Jack Rothwell and Dustin Wester. He is also survived by four sisters: Barbara Rice of Kensett, Arkansas, Nadine Abbott, Llewellyn Delaney and Judy Adco*ck, all of Camden, Arkansas.
