How do you get Southwest to answer? ›

To reach a representative, call 1-800-I-FLY-SWA or 1-800-435-9792. Since help is available 24 hours a day, you can call when it's most convenient for you. For customers who need to call while outside of the United States, additional customer service phone numbers are available.

Contact your carrier's customer service

When in doubt, call the carrier's customer service line and ask an agent to check how full the flight is. It might not be the most convenient option, but it will yield an answer.

Usually the best way to do that is by using the airline's own app to manage your booking. Using the seat map checker is the fastest way to keep an eye on what seats are available.

If a flight has few seats left, Southwest's website will show the number of seats left below the price in small, red text. But these are the only seats remaining under a certain fare class, not necessarily the last seats on the plane.

Very unlikely you'll have a cancellation based on passenger numbers for one given flight. I've been on 50 seaters with just one other passenger and 300 seat longhaul aircraft with about 20 other passengers.

Depending on your airline, you're almost certainly able to get a peak at the seat map during the check-in process, which starts 24 hours before departure. There are two airplane seat information websites that you can use to get seat information in advance of your flight: SeatGuru and SeatLink. Both work very similarly. SeatGuru shows you airplane seat maps online so you can find out whether your airplane seat is over a wing or next to the toilets.

Like many other airlines, Southwest begins boarding about 30 minutes before scheduled departure. However, the similarities largely end there. Southwest's boarding process is unlike any other airline thanks to its open seating policy that allows travelers to sit just about anywhere they want.
