Most states and territories around Australia are gearing up for a long weekend with the King's Birthday public holiday on June 10.

There are some alterations to normal business hours at major stores including Coles, Woolworths, Dan Murphy's and Bunnings.

This year Aussies may feel like they're celebrating the King's honorary birthday in England with overcast, mild weather forecast across much of the country.

When is the public holiday?

New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory celebrate the King's Birthday public holiday on June 10.

Western Australia celebrates the monarch's birthday on September 23 and in Queensland the public holiday falls on October 7.

The public holiday does not mark King Charles' true birthday, which falls on November 14.

What's open King's Birthday?

Coles

Stores in ACT, Victoria, NSW, NT and Tasmania remain open with some slight changes to trading hours based on individual shops.

Check their website for specific store trading hours.

Stores in Queensland and WA are unaffected by the public holiday.

In South Australia, all stores closed except for: Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbor.

Woolworths

Woolworths supermarkets in the ACT, NT, Victoria, NSW, WA, Queensland and Tasmania are open however some individual stores opening and closing times may vary.

All Woolworths supermarkets in SA are closed.

An ALDI spokesperson said trading hours will vary across the long weekend and customers are advised to check opening and closing times "closer to June 10".

Dan Murphy's

All Dan Murphy's stores will be open with reduced trading hours.

In the ACT, NSW, SA, Tasmania and Victoria the majority will be open at 10am with most closing at 6pm or 7pm.

Queensland and WA stores are unaffected.

BWS

Apart from South Australian stores, the majority of BWS liquor shops in NSW, ACT, NT, Victoria and Tasmania will open between 9am and 10am and close between 7pm and 9pm.

Queensland and WA stores are unaffected.

Liquorland, Vintage Cellars, First Choice Liquor Market

All Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor Market stores will trade with reduced hours on June 10 except those that are closed.

Check the Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor Market websites for specific store trading hours.

Bunnings

All Bunnings stores will be open on June 10 however some reduced trading hours apply to stores outside Queensland and WA. These hours are typically the same as the store's weekend trading times.

Kmart

Kmart and K Hub stores in NSW, ACT, NT, Victoria and Tasmania will open with some slight changes to trading hours based on individual shops.

Queensland and WA stores are operating as normal.

A handful of shops in SA will be closed including:

  • Firle
  • Tea Tree
  • Munno Para
  • Ingle Farm
  • Kurralta Park
  • West Lakes
  • Port Noarlunga
  • Marion
  • Churchill

Target

Changes have been made to opening and closing times at individual Target stores except in Western Australia and Queensland.

A handful of shops in SA will be closed including:

  • Marion
  • Reynella
  • Hollywood Plaza
  • Unley
  • Gawler
  • West Lakes

Big W

BIG W Stores in NSW, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and NT are open with some alterations to opening and closing times.

Check their website for specific store trading hours.

Queensland and WA stores are operating as normal.

Almost all SA stores are closed except for Victor Harbor, Port Augusta, Renmark, Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier.
